Admin History | By 1875 there was an active separation movement in existence. A group of residents from the west of the district led by Sir Ralph Littler of Broomfield House petitioned the Local Government Board for separation alleging neglect and maladministration by the Edmonton Board of Health. A Public Enquiry was conducted by a Local Government Inspector called Arnold Taylor. His report in 1876 found the complaints largely justified but did not recommend separation. In 1880 notices were published announcing a Bill to separate the western district from Edmonton. The Bill was finally passed in 1881 after much discussion at committee stage. |
