| Description | The Committee was in charge of maintaining street lighting and roads. Gas remained the main source of lighting throughout,with the beginnings of electric lighting in the late twenties. New housing estates on green sites made the need for new roads. The committee had depots holding road materials, stabling, cart and steamrollers. The committee was also responsible for other related aspects; including, drainage, bridges, adequacy of traffic capacity, road names and numbers, signs, safety, finance and new roads. A fanancial estimate was prepared each year. The committee met monthly. |
